The Heart and The Subconscious Mind
Like the physical heart that beats automatically, the unconscious mind also works automatically, it can either work for us, or against us. If we will unite our heart with God’s will, walking in the Holy Spirit and Focusing on Him, our heart will work for us. It will then be God that will direct our path.
The heart is deceptive, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” -Jeremiah 17:9. This is because of patterns that have been developed apart from God.
The subconscious mind is a mind that has been developed based on patterns. Not all of the patterns have been good, however the subconscious does not know that. In order to break free from any distorted or negative pattern that has developed one must make a conscious effort to “reprogram.”
The key is to bring the subconscious mind into harmony with the consciousness mind. We do this by taking every thought captive, read 2 Corinthians 10:5. This process can frustrate us because from the beginning in the Garden of Eden we existed in a perfect world. We didn’t have to worry about a subconscious mind. We had imprints from a perfect God in a perfect world. We were open without secrets, nothing was broken, hidden or unknown.
Take heart my friend in this imperfect world we are not left without tools. God has taught us how to manage our mind and the enemy that tries to torment our minds. God has taught us how to change our minds so we can change our lives. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is.” Proverbs 23:7
So thoughts become paramount to how we feel. Our feelings reside in the heart. Our heart controls our actions.
Thoughts simply pass through the mind. However a belief makes that thought real, whether it is a lie or a truth. No thought has any power over you until you believe it. It really is as simple as choice. Choose to believe what God says, or what the enemy says.
Our narrator, words that play over and over in our head, can either be negative or positive. Positive being the words God would say to us. We are all looking for love and acceptance, in other words God’s blessings. Often when these blessings are denied in our life the negative emotion that gets developed plays over and over until it is healed.
Medical professionals and scientist say the subconscious mind is what drives our consciousness. And they are right, The Bible tells us that out of the mouth overflows what is in the heart, Matthew 15:18. Remember that what is stored in the heart are the emotions and beliefs that we have held all of our life, until we are healed.
Keep in mind that the subconscious, or unconscious mind is just that, it is not in our realm of consciousness. Just like the heart that beats when we are unaware, it also creates an area of feelings that are stored that we are unaware of. We do not know where they are coming from. We often do not understand why we are feeling the way we do.
The most important thing you must understand about the subconscious mind is that like the heart it “wants what it wants.” The heart is based on beliefs. If one believes a certain way, or wants something a certain way, it will do anything to achieve it.
In scripture God tells us that where your heart is there will be your treasure.(Matthew 6:21) Because the heart seeks what it wants and will use monetary means to accomplish it.
The “Subconscious mind” is a term that was developed to name thought patterns that are running unconsciously due to past attention and belief.
Many of your perceptions and interpretations became ingrained into your belief system through your developing years. We often then take these beliefs, which are usually distorted and make them truths that integrate into the heart. You can become free from these false beliefs by understanding that every subconscious thought was once a “new thought” that you ingrained and believed.
Here are some examples of a deceptive heart or false subconscious mind.
*It is hard to make money.
*I cannot trust anyone.
*I will never be good enough.
*I am unloved.
*Life is hard.
The way to break free from this negative belief system in your subconscious mind is to allow God to give you a new heart. “And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”-Ezekiel 36:26
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”-Psalm 51:10
Here at YKI coaching we do this through meditation and by washing our minds with God’s Words and blessings which are His visions for our life, focusing on our true identity in Him. Often because we might not know what that is, it is helpful to have a Christian Coach that can bless us with the words that the Lord would say.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life”- Proverbs 4:23
“As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person.” -Proverbs 27:19 NLT
“But be careful. Don’t let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the LORD and serve and worship other gods.” -Deuteronomy 11:16 NLT
“The crooked heart will not prosper; the lying tongue tumbles into trouble.” -Proverbs 17:20 NLT
